Upgrade SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2
Prior to build 483, PigCHAMP installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. This is the database program that stores and organizes the data entered into the PigCHAMP program. The SQL software is a free program from Microsoft.

While SQL Server 2005 Express is a very good database program, it limits the database size to 4GB. This is quite a bit of data, but for larger customers with more sows or extensive record-keeping over many years, it can pose as a limitation.

In the spring of 2011, Microsoft came out with a new SQL product: SQL Server 2008 R2. The Express version of this software allows for a 10GB database file size and works with the PigCHAMP software in the same way that SQL Server 2005 Express does.

PROCEDURE TO UPGRADE:

1. Save a copy of your database using the PigCHAMP Backup and Restore Utility
2. Download a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express from the Microsoft website. You will need to download the appropriate version for 32 or 64-bit operating system.
3. Follow the instructions in the attached document to upgrade your database: Upgrading SQL 2005 Express to SQL 2008 R2 Express.pdf
