How do I account for pigs I put in the piggy barrel (also known as rescue deck or piggy deck) in PigCHAMP?
Answer
There are a couple of options with the piggy barrels.

The one you use depends on what is more important to you, the actual age of the pig when it is put in the piggy barrel or the age of the pig when it is moved to the nursery.

Option 1: Actual age of the pig when it is moved to the piggy barrel.

The pigs are moved to the piggy barrel. If the pigs are taken off of multiple sows, a part wean of the number of pigs that go to the piggy barrel is done for each sow. If only one sow is used, she can be weaned with the number of pigs moved to the piggy barrel. However, on the records, these pigs are weaned from the farrowing house at this point. They will go into the total pigs weaned for the week if the whole litter is weaned.

Option 2: Actual age of the pigs when they go to the nursery.

The pigs are moved to the piggy barrel. A foster off event is used for the pigs on the sows that they are removed from. When the piggy barrel pigs are moved to the nursery, they are fostered on to the sows or a single sow and then weaned with the other pigs on that date. This could mean that some sows will wean 20 pigs for example.
